Zoochory - Dispersal of Seeds
Some fruits are eaten by animals and the seeds are passed out with the excreta (endozoochory). Plums, Lantana, grapes, figs and guava are examples of some of the fruits eaten by birds. Fleshy part of the fruit is digested in the gut of the bird and the seeds are expelled along with the droppings. Using the excreta as manure, many of such seeds germinate. It is believed that the seeds of Ficus species germinate only after they have passed through the gut and have been subjected to the scarification in the gullet by small pebbles and digestive fluids in the alimentary canal.
