Essay questions - Choose one Question:
1. Identify a youth cultural grouping either contemporary or historical and outline the cultural practices that members of this group engaged in. Does the grouping constitute a subculture? How are/were its activities presented in the mainstream media? Did they become 'folk devils' and why?
2. Outline a series of events in which the activities of young people led to public expressions of moral alarm, in particular through the mass media. To what extent did these events constitute a 'moral panic', in Stanley Cohen's terms? What role, if any, did new media play?
Choose one essay question and research and write an essay that responds to this question in 2,000 words.
