Letter to the Editor:I want you to write a letter to the editor giving your stand on Canada's recent signing of the Trans Pacific Partnership. As we have a new government, we have an opportunity to rethink whether or not we should sign the TPP. We can either ratify the agreement in Parliament or withdraw and so avoid ratification. It is probably the case that we cannot renegotiate the TPP and so it is a take-or-leave proposition.
ASSIGNMENT: You will write a 250 - 400 word (1-2 pages double spaced 12 point font) letter to the editor stating whether or not we should sign the TPP. You will start your letter with "Canada should ratify the Trans Pacific Partnership." or "Canada should withdraw from the Trans Pacific Partnership". Pick a side and argue it. Provide a sound rationale for your position. You do not have to give citations though they may be useful. Do some research. Your grade will reflect how compelling I thought your argument was. So it will depend on how well you justify your position. You can go narrow:
• "We should drop it because the treatment of Copywrite is completely inadequate."
• "We should ratify it because it opens agricultural exports to Asia." You can go broad:
• "We should ratify the TPP because it offers Canada significantly better access to Asian markets that we have not enjoyed before."
• "We should drop the TPP because it confers benefits to firms but leaves average people to pick up the bill." SOME RESOURCES: https://www.international.gc.ca/trade-agreements-accords-commerciaux/agr-acc/tppptp/index.aspx?lang=eng https://canadians.org/tpp
