STEP 1:

You will create an animated video illustrating a legal case related to our course. You have been provided a free Powtoon account to complete this project. You also can incorporate PowerPoint screencast videos into the project.

You will create an animated Powtoon video on a current or recent legal court case that is NOT summarized in our textbook. You also can incorporate PowerPoint screencast videos into the project. It must be a case where you can find the arguments of both sides presented at the trial court level. There are several options here.

Option 1: Case with a trial court or appeals court ruling you can access. This will provide the major arguments of the opposing sides in the case. (You MUST have access to opposing arguments in the case, either through a final ruling by the court or by access to filings submitted by the parties).

Option 2: Case that was dismissed, or settled, but where pleadings (i.e., court filings) of opposing parties are available to you.

STEP 2: Create Textual Storyboard Connecting Script to Description of Visuals

On our course site, in the area on "Final Projects," see the example in the Powtoon eBook and Workbook of how to connect your script to your visuals. The Powtoon Workbook calls this your "Storyboard."

Once you know the major arguments presented in your case, you will draft a script for narration over your video, as well as write up the visuals you would like to have accompany each segment of narration. You will write up what you would LIKE to show in visuals, then when you select your theme for your video, you'll see what images are available, which ones you'll need to import, and you will be able to revise your images.

You will create a duplicate chart with your tentative narration script and a description of the visuals you plan to create to accompany each segment of the script. See workbook for example of this. "

STEP #3: Create 3 - 7 minute Powtoon video on your Media Law Case

Follow Powtoon guidelines to narrate your Powtoon script and create animated video illustrating key facts, precedent, arguments of the parties, and any court ruling related to your case. It's OK to use some text on your slides. Just make certain that you always balance it out with images and animation. Remember to save your draft videos often as you work on your project. Use the Powtoon tutorials to help you as you develop your animation.
