Pie-in-the-Sky Resorts has decided to open up a new facility in Lake Charles which includes 30,000 square feet of gaming area with 20 ft ceilings and 200 room luxury hotel. For a number of unclear reasons, the company has decided to generate its own electricity on-site to supply lights, power for air conditioning, etc. Your job is to design the power production and air conditioning systems for the facility.
You may assume natural gas is available as a fuel, and may sustain a flame temperature of up to Tmax. For fluid machinere (compressors, turbines, pumps) assume an efficiency \eta. For all heat exchangers assume a minimum driving force \DeltaTDF . Assume extreme summer temperatures of 100F and 80F for ambient air and water, respectively.
The system should meet the following criteria:
1) Air should be recirculated at least once per hour.
2) At least 10% of air through vents should be fresh air
3) Heat from radiation is estimated to be 6 Btu/hr-ft2
4) Indoor temperature should be maintained at 70F
You should estimate reasonable values for heat effects and electricity requirements from lighting, people, etc.
Your report (typed) should summarize your findings and state the pertinent data for all equipment. Attach all legible handwritten calculations you consider material to your design.
You are constrained by the following:
Maximum Flame Temperature: 1000F
Efficiency of Power Machinery, \eta, 80
Minimum Driving Force in Heat Exchangers, 10
