You have been working assiduously for several years to isolate a protein you believe is involved in triggering apoptosis in cancer cells — if you can identify the gene for this protein it could revolutionize cancer therapy. Unfortunately you've only been able to isolate a very small amount of it, too little to use to generate antibodies against the protein (which you could then use to screen a cDNA library to identify the gene). So you determine the sequence of the beginning of the protein:
Met–Lys–Ala–Gly–Pro–Glu–Ile
How could you use the knowledge you've gleaned about the protein sequence to clone the gene for this protein
Once you think you've got a clone of the right gene, how would you verify that it is in fact the correct gene?
