You are working in the medical records office at a local hospital, and you notice that you run across some very disturbing information regarding the husband of your next door neighbor. It seems that he was diagnosed with HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). However, the record says that he asked his physician not to mention it to his wife. This particular neighbor also happens to be your best friend, and you begin to wonder just what he may be hiding from her, and why. As an employee of the hospital, you are required to keep all patients’ illnesses confidential. If you tell your friend about her husband, you could get fired. However, if you don’t tell her, she may end up with HIV, too. What would you do in such a situation, and what would be your reasoning behind your decision? Your response should be at least 200 words in length.
