You are to pick a published article from this year (after January 1st 2015) from either Time magazine (www.time.come), Business Insider (www.businessinsider.come), the Huffington post (www.huffingtonpost.com), or The Federalist https://thefederalist.com/ and analyze how the content of the article illustrates a sociological concept by answering one of the two questions below.
- How does this article use a statistic taken from another source? Is the use/ interpretation of this statistic consistent with the original source? How does this use of data connect to the concepts Cherlin and Best discussed?
- How does this article illustrate Mill's central point on the need to consider social issues when studying personal troubles? What does this reveal about culture as a product of social construction?
Make sure you address all parts of the question in your response. You must use the content of the article and sociological concepts to support your analysis. Furthermore, you must clearly define all of the sociological terms you use.
No more than 25% of your essay should be a summarization of the article. Unless you are answering question 1, you are not expected to do any additional research. Make sure your essay is an objective evaluation of the material as a representation of sociological concepts and not an ideological discussion on a social issue.
Format Guidelines:
You essay should be between 500 and 750 words.
