Topic: The analysis of the Nitric Acid Absorption Column

As the research chemical engineer in charge of this project, I was tasked with the following roles and responsibilities.

Detailed study of the nitric acid production plant sections (gas mixing, nitric oxide oxidation, ammonia oxidation, tail gas treatment and absorption)
Derivation of system requirements and specifications of the various components of the absorption column
Design of the nitric acid absorption column, considering the materials for the structure, feed rate and control mechanism
Simulation of the absorption process in a suitable computer platform such as ASPEN or MATLAB and theoretical column characterization from this model
Construction of column parts, interconnection, piping and assembly of a prototype column with least costs
Safety adherence and documentation of the work undertaken.
