Question: The social aspects of a location of residence have an impact on one's health. This study uses data from the Beijing municipality, an area that has seen expansion and gaps in development, to examine the ramifications of this among older persons in rural vs. urban China. A multistate life table technique that calculates hazard rates and consequent predicted years in different health stages is used to measure life and active life expectancy. Risks are calculated for a model that accounts for age and sex-specific geographical differences as well as for a number of different models with extra factors.
