Assignment
1. You are leading a bomb squad tech team and the last step in defusing a large charge of plastic explosive is to determine if the following circuit can test for bit equality. Meaning, if given a=1, b=1 for input, it judges them equal, same with a=0, b=0. It judges a=1, b=0 and a=0, b=1 as unequal.
*write out the entire truth table for this circuit
*state whether, and why, this circuit properly compares a pair of bits to test if they are equal
2. Recall as premises that:
AB = F means A "AND" B = F (F is the output column)
A + B = F means A "OR" B=F.
As such given:
AB + BC + AC = F
* write out the circuit for this equation (using proper AND, OR gates)
* write out the truth table for this equation
* state why this equation and corresponding circuit is usually referred to as the "majority" function
3. Given the following two circuits:
* write the truth table for each circuit
* compare the truth tables and then state whether the circuits are logically equivalent
4. You are the engineering commander for the first human mission to Mars. Upon crash landing on the red planet, safely, you find that one of the half-adder circuits (below) in a secondary oxygen generator has been damaged beyond repair and must be replaced. You find that the only extra logic gates that were sent for rebuilds were NAND gates. Redraw the circuit below using only NAND gates.
