Write description of the concept of epigenetics

Assignment Task:

Sally tells Fred that she knows a family with a set of identical twins. She is confused because the twins are actually pretty different in terms of their well-being. The twins are 9 years old. One twin has been diagnosed with depression while the other twin does not show signs of depression. Fred is incredulous and says: "That makes no sense! How could the twins be so different? Aren't they "identical" twins?"

Start by explaining what identical twins are - and why we expect them to be similar in many ways.

Next, using epigenetics as the focal point of your discussion, explain how the twins could show such different outcomes in terms of depressive symptoms.

As part of your answer, make sure to provide a clear description of the concept of epigenetics. Be sure, also, to draw from, and cite, some of the resources on epigenetics from the lesson content.

You might also want to draw from other concepts such as shared versus non-shared environmental factors, niche picking, or evocative correlation, as well as the idea of developmental trajectories.
