Each year, the company has to do an emergency evacuation plan, which means everyone needs to leave the building and assemble at a muster point in the parking lot until they are called back in by the fire marshal.
Last year, the exercise was a disaster: some employees thought it was optional and stayed at their desks. Some were on the road and were very frustrated when they couldn't reach anyone in the office. Some didn't know where the muster point was and went to Tim Hortons.
As much as the CEO would love to skip it based on what happened last year, she knows this exercise is very important to reduce the possibility of harm to employees.
