Essay : Proposal Essay
Topic: Proposal Essay
Like much of this quarter looking at ethos, logos and pathos, you will now be putting your newly learned writing skills to use to identify a problem and offer a new solution. Choose wisely as you must convince readers that your solution is fair and will work. Your topic can be a general topic or you can further your analysis from Essay 2 to identify a problem and solution. Some topics may include abolishing tips for waiters/waitresses or interlock devices (Breathalyzer) built into vehicle.
Content
First and foremost, you must make an arguable claim. You must demonstrate why there is a problem/issue and exactly how your solution is feasible. With this essay, you will want to explore multiple perspectives, including the rebuttal. For a plan, research current procedures, policies, plans that are in place and find the flaws ---this can be your solution. By talking about current policies that are in place does not justify your new solution and will not count. You must give something new. Credible and relevant resources are a must (Think of STAR-what does it mean again?). You must use 6-8 resources; however, with not more than two deriving from the Internet.
Sources from the library are not considered Internet sources. The more authoritative sources used, the more convincing the research looks; the fewer authoritative sources used, the less credible the research looks. The credible source that you choose can come from a journal, book, magazine, newspaper article, or other reference material. Databases such as InfoTrac, Opposing Viewpoints and ProQuest are good search engines. Wikipedia, dictionaries (ask.coms, question forums, or something similar), or sources with no author and date are not reliable sources and do not count. Sources should be relatively recent, no later than 2012, or depending on accuracy of information.
Content/Description of the essay
The length of your proposal essay will be between 8-10 pages (not including the cover page or the reference page). APA format is required for this assignment. This includes all parts: cover page, in-text citations, and the reference page (this essay does not require an abstract).
