SHORT READING SUMMARY REPORTS
In order to prove that you carefully read the REQUIRED READINGS, you are required to submit a total of TEN brief summary reports of ONLY ONE of the REQUIRED READINGS assigned for each class session. The readings will be assigned according to your last name. Each report must contain three sections:
(1) a summary of the central argument and the evidence presented by the author of the selected reading;
(2) your personal opinion, reaction, connection to your own experience using technology, or relevance to understand the effects of technology on society, and
(3) at least one discussion point/question for class. The reading summaries should be NO less than one FULL page long, but not more than two pages, SINGLE SPACED, ONE INCH margins, Times New Roman, 12-point type.
[Please review your PAGE LAYOUT. The default margins in Microsoft Word are 1.25-inch. Please adjust the margins to NORMAL (1- inch)]. Reading reports must include your name and number and title of the reading: please DO NOT include my name, the date of the assignment or any other additional information about the class. This information is not necessary.
If the reading summary does not minimally prove that you read or understood the reading material, the summary will receive 0 points. You are required to bring a hard copy to class for the discussion and group activities. But you must first turn in your summary to a Carmen Drop Box three hours before the class in which the reading appears in the calendar: reading summaries must be posted on CARMEN by 11:30 AM on the day where the reading appears on the calendar. Assignments only turned in in person or sent by email will not be graded. Handwritten reports will not be accepted. You MUST submit your summaries on MICROSOFT WORD and MUST have your last name and the number of the reading in the name of the file: Smith_R1.1. 5 IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW ALL THE FORMAT GUIDELINES,
THE GRADE FOR YOUR ASSIGNMENT WILL BE AFFECTED. Some weeks you will also find COMPLEMENTARY READINGS posted on CARMEN. All complementary readings are optional. If you like, you can write and submit summaries of the COMPLEMENTARY READINGS posted on CARMEN for EXTRA POINTS. Each summary of a complementary reading will count only for 2 extra points, as opposed to the usual 3 points for required readings.
