Question:
Pseudoarchaeological write-up
Find a good example of a pseudoarchaeological claim or series of claims we haven't covered in class
Provide a brief list of books, publications, or websites/videos detailing this claim
Write a short overview (300-500 words) detailing the claim and why it would make a good case to cover when I teach this class next time
Course Description:
Depictions of archaeology in popular culture are full of dubious tales of ancient extraterrestrials, giants, and widespread scientific conspiracy.
In this class we will explore such fantastic claims and learn how archaeologists separate plausible arguments from pseudoscience. We will also critically examine how and why pseudoscientific claims develop and take hold of the public imagination.
