Zora Neale Hurston's Novel: THEIR EYES WERE WATCHING GOD
1) Write a nine - twelve page research paper on ONE central thesis. This does not include any cover page (optional) or the Works Cited page.
2) The research paper should be propelled by your "voice/thought processes" gleaned from reading the novel and from classroom discussions.
3) Supplement your thesis with a minimum of "four" scholarly literary works by published experts in the field. These literary criticism/literary interpretation works should support/address your thesis-driven analysis.
Note: If you reference a Bible (King James Version preferred), your Bible of choice should be referenced in-text with parentheticals AND on your Works Cited page.

QUOTED PASSAGES FROM THE NOVEL AND OUTSIDE RESOURCES.
6) Use Times New Roman, 12-font, for your formatting. No extra line spacing should appear anywhere in your paper. EVERY LINE SHOULD BE DOUBLE-SPACED THROUGHOUT.
7) Late papers and non-compliance with this assignment will drastically, negatively affect your final grade for this course.
8) Upload your final paper to BlackBoard's "Safe/Assignment" link before turning in your hard-copy version to the instructor. No e-mailed papers, please.
9) Please use the "language" of literary criticism throughout your paper.
10) As you refer to quoted passages from the novel, use parenthetical notations after your quoting: (Hurston 138). Use parentheticals which go hand-and-hand with your external supporting documents in this manner as well.
