OVERVIEW
Using the data you have collected and the feedback from the professor and classmates, you will now write a letter to the appropriate legislative representative. This opportunity will allow you to advocate for your chosen bill.
INSTRUCTIONS
Using the bill you chose for your Health Policy Issue: PaperAssignment, you will write a letter to the appropriate legislator.
Keep in mind the following information regarding the appropriate legislator:
• The letter should be written to the correct legislative body
o House or Senate
o State or Federal
• The letter should be written to your legislator
o Your federal or state representative
The letter must include the following:
• Name and number of the bill (senate or house bill);
• A synopsis of what the bill proposes.
• What funding considerations are discussed and is there any consideration for funding the legislation? If no funding sources are identified, propose where the funding will come from based on your reading.
• Advocate and support your position on the bill: pro or con based on your values and Biblical Worldview, available statistics/data, and potential impact.
• Explain why is this legislation important to nursing, patients or healthcare, and the population you are advocating for, e.g. school children?
• Use quantitative (statistics and data) and qualitative (stories or anecdotes) methods as part of your discussion.
The assignment will consist of:
• Title page
• One-two page formal business letter (do not use a letter template)
• Reference page citing the bill
The Legislative Letter Assignmentmust be written in current APA format and include the link to the bill on the reference page along with any sources used. The letter will be typed using 1-inch margins in professional/formal business letter writing format appropriate to send to a member of Congress.
