Problem
Write a feature-length profile that explores a particular group, making observations about the way communication/language operates to hold a particular group together in some way. Or, you might also decide to write about how institutional language ignores a particular group (this would be similar to the Dani McClain piece) and in this case you will want to explore the way the group in question adapts to and overcomes silence. You'll want to include the kind of details that introduce the reader to the subjects of your profile and you'll want to analyze these details, metabolizing them for the reader rather than just presenting raw facts. As with the personal essay, which asked you to connect your own experience to broader issues, find a way to make connections between the group you're writing about and the wider world. For instance, you might argue that a certain online community helps to combat loneliness among young adults during the pandemic or that retail clerks joke at the custom.
The response should include a reference list. Double-space, using Times New Roman 12 pnt font, one-inch margins, and APA style of writing and citations.
