Would this be correct describing social identity theory as applying cognition, assimilation, and coherence as three key concepts? I figured cognitively individuals categorize their experiences in life to make sense out of the world. Assimilation, where new information is formed from others and our individual identify that ties in values, culture and norms. We want coherence with others that have similar experiences or beliefs to help us understand the world and gain meaning.
I was not most unsure about using the word assimilation, and not sure it applies. Any tips? Can someone let me know what I'm missing and how to understand it better?
