Problem
Young couples with young children will experience different types of grief than older couples with adult children. The loss of a parent in a young family and a spouse by an elderly couple illustrate family grief and the developmental stages of the family. Children will need guidance and stability to cope with their loss in the first situation and emotional support from the surviving parent. As for the second situation, the family will focus on providing emotional support to the surviving spouse and financial and practical support to ensure that the older person can live independently.
Would it be more difficult for a younger couple to navigate their grief and loss at their developmental family stage? Or the older couple with adult children? Why or why not?
