Will light go any length along the fiber?
Each conductor has losses, and in the case of fiber optics, all these are sizeable. Light losses into the industry average 2 to 5 percent per meter or over. When we start with, as 100 units of light at the common end we will lose 25 percent at the end of five meters and over 40 percent after ten. Actually, most systems have losses greater than 50 percent over a ten-meter length.
