Problem: Select one of Appiah's four examples and make an initial discussion post giving the best case you can for why we need a political solution, rather than some other sort of solution, to it. That is, say why this is the sort of problem that should be addressed by the government (not how it should be addressed). It is not enough to say that it is a morally repugnant practice, since not all morally repugnant practices require political solutions. Present the best objections you can think of against the case you just made. (If you have to, apply some of the general arguments against reform that Appiah mentions in his piece). In discussion, make the best responses you can think of to the objections your classmates offered. If the best response is to modify your initial view, then it is fine to revise your own view in the face of the objections you have considered. Go on to discuss with the group the merits of the central claims.
