When psychoanalysis was first introduced into the USA, the medical community (especially psychiatrists) readily accepted it as a legitimate form of therapy. Psychoanalysis was taught at all the major medical schools that offered psychiatry as a specialty. Gradually, however, as time went on, it began to fall out of favor in the USA. In fact, today, it would be very difficult to find a psychiatric program at any medical school that even has a course on psychoanalysis.
