Read Chapters 52 (Politics and Evidence Based practice and policy) and 53 (The nursing workforce) from the BOOK; Policy and Politics in Nursing and Healthcare h edition by Diana J. Mason et al

Track the bill; Senate Bill 48 (Require cultural competency for certain health care professionals)
1. Where is the Bill in this process?
2. Review the Bill and explain why the issue related to the bill has been controversial and what it would take/or what it took to move the issue forward.
3. Write Letters & Get to Know Your Legislators. Formulate a letter to the appropriate public official at the local, state or national level to express your views and to ask for her/his support or to thank them for their support on the Bill mentioned earlier.
4. Reflect on the previous by answering the following questions adapted from the DEAL model (Ash & Clayton, 2009).
5. What did you learn? What was your experience using the different policy advocacy tools?
6. Why does the learning matter? (about the tools, bills, readings, etc)
