In central Africa, where malaria is common, around 68% of people have the sickle- cell allele. In the United States, only about 9% of people with African ancestry carry the allele. Malaria is currently still prevalent in central Africa, but not in the U.S.
a) Why the different allele percentages in the two locations?
b) What are your predictions about future percentages in both central Africa and the US, based on what we discussed about patterns of inheritance?
