Problem: Gloria's mother, Sarah, is three month's past due on her rent. The family car is in serious need of new tires. Sarah works as a hair stylist and has a fair income but Gloria's mounting medical bills from her recent surgery have created a major financial crisis in this household. The ITDS continues to bring new activities each week for Sarah to work on to improve Gloria's understanding of cause and effect and is upset when Sarah has not followed through. The ITDS may need to step back from the situation and consider the following theoretical perspective as to why Sarah is less involved in Gloria's developmental progress.
