Assignment Task:
Apoptosis (programmed cell death) is triggered when pro-death signals outweigh pro-survival signals. B- and T-cells are said to be "primed" for apoptosis, what could this mean? Remember, think big picture, broad concepts (not individual molecules, signaling pathways, etc).
Most cells in adult humans are not "primed" for apoptosis. Why might B- and T-cells be one of the exceptions (i.e., why are they "primed" for apoptosis but other cell types aren't)? Hint: think about what needs to happen during development of these cells and the immune response in general.
