Why is RMR the largest component of TDEE for most of us? RMR is roughly 1,500 kcal/day. Running 1 mile adds ~100 kcal. Running 15 miles would add ~1,500 kcal to RMR. What is it that our bodies are doing to burn so many kcals while we sleep or rest? Think of as many components as you can. Do not include any physical activity or any effects of food digestion as these are not part of RMR.
