Problem
For Hopkins Poem "Spring and Fall" What is the situation and the conflict in this poem? Why is Margaret sad, and what does the older speaker say about this sadness, and about what awaits her as she gets older? How could someone paraphrase lines 6-9? What does the speaker mean when he tells her that "Sorrow's springs are the same" (l.11)? How are readers supposed to connect the first lines of the poem with the last lines? Why is more appropriate that this poem is entitled "Spring and Fall" rather than, say, "Spring and Autumn"?
