Assignment Task:
Step 1: Read the case scenario. A group of professionals from different health care disciplines are convened as a task force to look at best practices for preventing medication errors in the hospital. As part of this evidence-based project, members of the interprofessional task force are expected to work together to come up with recommendations for changing the way medication administration occurs on the units. Historically, the members of the different disciplines have not always collaborated well due to preconceived ideas and stereotypes that one discipline has for another. However, it has been made clear that they must work together to get this project completed. As the group meets, they find that there are many differing opinions on the best way to go about the project; some are in favor of implementing one intervention, while others have a different idea for interventions. Many members of the group recognize that they need to begin to work together to get the work done. This will require the use of professional values and behaviors.
Step 2: Post a response to the discussion board. In your response, address the following questions:
- In this scenario, which professional values are important for the members of the interprofessional team to possess?
- Why is it important to behave in a professional manner when working with other members of the interprofessional team on an evidence-based project such as the one in the case? Provide examples of behaviors that would be inappropriate for the group member in this case.
- Evaluate your own personal values and behaviors. Which values are most important to you? Choose at least three and provide examples of how these values translate into professional behaviors for you in your nursing practice.
