Problem
After watching the YouTuube video "Delayed Gratification Makes for Better Prepared Children" on the Children Delay Gratification, answer the following questions.
A. Why is impulse control so difficult during early childhood? Be sure to identify the key brain structure involved in impulse control.
B. Give some examples either from the book or (better yet) from your own life of perseveration (doing, saying, or watching the same thing over and over) or poor impulse control. Describe how this stage can be frustrating and challenging for parents and others.
C. What can parents (or others) do to help kids in early childhood control their impulses OR control perseveration? Can you think of any games/strategies that help to develop impulse control?
D. How do you think you would have responded if you were the child in this experiment? (note how difficult it was for little Jacky, who was successful).
