Assignment task:
Reflect on one of these health topics (HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, heart disease, cancer, alcohol or tobacco use, respiratory infections/diseases, diabetes, or maternal and child health-related issues) for this journal discussion. First, describe a quantitative study to examine one aspect of that health topic that you would like to study and propose a research question and hypothesis. Then, consider the same health topic and state a qualitative research question. For example, I am interested in examining the relationship between the density of supermarkets and risk for obesity in a given region. I would choose the appropriate study design and then state my research question for a quantitative study: Is there a relationship between density of supermarkets and risk for obesity? My hypothesis for this quantitative study is: Larger number of supermarkets in a given community decreases the risk for obesity. My research question for a qualitative study is: What are some reasons why having more supermarkets can be beneficial in lowering risk for obesity? Explain when you would want to conduct a quantitative versus a qualitative research study.
