Paper Assignment
1. Machiavelli says that glory is the goal of the prince (and by extension, the goal of politics in general). Why does he say this and how does he justify it? Do you agree? Why or why not?
Guidelines for the Papers
• Papers should be 1,000-1,250 words long
• Papers should be double spaced
• You should have a thesis statement (and an argument to make) relative to the topic/question you have chosen to do
• You DO NOT need to use secondary sources (the questions are asked so that you can use the assigned text alone) - but you CAN if you want to.
• If you DO use secondary sources, they will not automatically help or hurt your grade
• Have an argument (do not simply assert an opinion - provide reasons as to why you think what you do)
• Be sure to review AND clarify the significant arguments of the author for the question you're answering
• Offer your OWN view AFTER you've reviewed their position
• Make sure you are clear about the separate PARTS of your own argument (don't just run a bunch of assertions together thoughtlessly)
• Have a proper conclusion
• Use ENDNOTES (instead of footnotes or in-text parenthetical citations)
• Have a proper reference page at the end of the paper
• List the word count at the end of the paper
Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
1. The answer should be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
2. The response also include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
3. Also Include a reference page. The Citations and references should follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
