Why doctor should keep patient information private

Assignment task:

It's tricky when deciding if a doctor should keep patient information private, it is important to maintain trust, respect the patient's choices, and follow the law. Keeping information confidential helps patients feel safe sharing sensitive details that are important for their care. But I also feel there are times when confidentiality can be broken, like if a patient is a danger to themselves or others, if the law requires it, or if the patient agrees to share the information. In the end, the decision should carefully consider these factors based on the situation at hand. Now I see the physician faces a challenging situation due to the patient's intoxication and potential legal issues stemming from the car accident. The odor of alcohol and the blood ethanol level of 0.17 mg/dl indicate that the patient is legally impaired. To me this raises concerns about his ability to make safe decisions for himself. Therefore, I feel from a legal responsibility standpoint, the doctor should definitely not maintain patient confidentiality due to how the man is a danger to himself and others because of intoxication and how untruthful he has been with the doctor.
