In The Three Feathers, the king who has three sons, permits those sons, mainly because of the two sons who deem themselves more intelligent and clever, to have three odds to claim/find their right to his kingdom, and he uses three feathers to find the direction in which the sons will travel to bring back the items that he has asked for. Why do you believe this fairy tale uses the number three, throughout the story? And why do you suppose that the king kept giving in to the two sons who deemed themselves more intelligent and clever?
