1. In this chapter, it is implicitly assumed that most countries want to become developed. What arguments can you think of that might lead a country to want to stall its development?
2. The descriptions of life in a less-developed nation graphically illustrate the meaning of poverty. If per capita GNP in the United States is so much higher than it is in less developed countries, why do we have so much poverty in the United States?
