Why and how is that resolution satisfying or unsatisfying

Problem

What is the nature of the conflict? The nature of the conflict is that Ivan wishes he would have spoken up sooner when he was younger to let his brother know what he's doing is not okay. When, where, and how does it develop or become more complicated as the story unfolds? The story slowly starts unfolding when Ivan's brother begins to slowly kill his wife by starving her and stealing her money. Once Nikolai killed his wife the story becomes complicated because Ivan begins to feel shameful, hate, and pain towards his brother's actions. How is it resolved at the end of the story? The story is "resolved" at the end of the story by Ivan expressing his emotions towards his friends and Nikolai achieving his dream. Why and how is that resolution satisfying or unsatisfying? The resolution is not satisfying because I would want Ivan to do less talking and address the issue with his brother. If Ivan successfully talks to his brother he may understand where he did wrong and how he should feel remorseful and selfish.
