Problem
In mid-April, most snow resorts in Canada close for the season. This is true even in where situations the mountain still has sufficient snow to continue operations, which is a point of contention among the colloquial 'ski bums' (i.e., those few individuals who are exceptionally passionate about skiing). While the mountain must maintain all of its labour and capital during this period, typically only those passionate about skiing frequent the mountain during the spring. Further, these individuals tend to hold season passes (meaning that they pay one lump sum at the beginning of the season to have unlimited access to the mountain during operating hours). Thus, based on marginal decision-making, explain why snow quantity is not necessarily the primary reason why a mountain shuts down prior to the spring melt.
