An organization's socialization process and culture can contribute to both corruption and official deviance. Although these terms, by definition and operation are different, their affects contribute to the public's perception of a criminal justice organization, and perpetuate a toxic subculture that is often traced to an organizations values, norms, goals, formal and informal socialization process, as well as management and leadership practices.
1. Your job is to develop a program for training corrections officers for a special internal affairs unit. They will investigate problems of contraband and violence in prison while working as regular officers. Whom would you recruit and how would you structure the process of training? What would be the content of training? What problems with the socialization process do you anticipate?

The paramilitary power associated with traditional police structures can contribute to a counter-force and subculture that creates noncompliance with formal organizational goals and can lead to high turn-over rates.
