Who you would involve in jason case plan

Assignment task: Need answers for this scenario please

Scenario:

You are an Advanced Case Manager managing Jason Black (27 years old), a violent offender who in five days is due to be released after six months in custody to commence his Community Correction Order. Mr Black's offences involved the assault of a male family member, in the presence of his own children. The assault occurred during a dispute involving his estranged wife and the restrictions she had placed on him to see his children. Mr Black had been drinking alcohol at the time. He was also formally diagnosed with bipolar in custody. Mr Black has been assessed as at a high risk of reoffending.

To support Mr Black's transition into the community, you have been liaising with prison staff to understand his needs when he is released. You know that he:

  • Was involved in a serious and violent altercation with another prisoner in the last six weeks
  • Tested positive in two separate urine tests for synthetic marijuana
  • This is the most serious involvement he has had with the criminal justice system
  • Is unemployed although has worked in various jobs in the past and finished year 10 of high school. He reports to be motivated to get a job although lacks self-efficacy in general
  • Has an alcohol problem and has used drugs before and minimises the role of substances in relation to his offending
  • Has a fairly recent bipolar diagnosis although partially rejects the diagnosis
  • Has two young children currently in the care of his estranged wife and is motivated to be a good father to them
  • Has accommodation arranged with his partner of 12 months who is 4 months pregnant
  • Household will be reliant on government benefits.
  • Has two pro-social friends he remains in contact with and a number of anti-social peers.
  • His father and one sibling have criminal records associated with violence and his father is an alcoholic.

As Mr Black's allocated case manager, you have been supporting his transition into the community and met with him on one occasion by video link to introduce yourself and confirm your first appointment with him. He appeared somewhat disinterested in the meeting and often laughed to detract from meaningful discussions.

He minimised the offence he committed, reporting that it was exaggerated in court documents. He speaks ill of his estranged wife and mentioned that she would be happy that he is in prison. He reported that his key focus is to try and get work upon release and see his children.

He was not interested in taking medication for his bipolar treatment post-release, stating 'I'm not a crazy person.' He became defensive on more than one occasion during your discussion with him also stating 'I'm not a bad person.
