A condenser-boiler section contains a 2-m X 2-m copper plate operating at a uniform temperature of Ts = 100°C and separating saturated steam, which is condensing, from a saturated liquid-X, which experi- ences nucleate pool boiling. A portion of the boiling curve for liquid-X is shown as follows. Both saturated steam and saturated liquid-X are supplied to the system, while water condensate and vapor-X are removed by means not shown in the sketch. At a pressure of 1 bar, fluid-X has a saturation temperature and a latent heat of vaporization of Tsat = 80°C and hfg = 700,000 J/kg, pressure p for the steam, assuming that film condensation occurs.
