Which types of hazards you expect to increase in colorado

Problem 1: Please choose one coastal hazard?event?(I am looking for?coastal erosion, such as rapid damage from hurricane storm surges, earthquakes, tsunamis or slower scale events which result in gradual erosion of beaches and cliffs, changes in the shape of the shoreline, etc.) which may or may not be a?catastrophe.? Please tell us about it?(name, date if applicable (or time period),?location, and extent of damage) and tell the class about the hazards it created (i.e.: deaths? extent of coastal erosion? loss of buildings?).? Please include information on the conditions it resulted from (hurricane? tsunami? earthquake? subsidence? gradual loss of sand? reduction in input of sand due to damning?) and any secondary hazards it may have created.

Problem 2: Climate Change:

a. Which types of hazards would you expect to increase in Colorado as the climate changes?? Why?

b. Would you expect to see any decrease in the types of hazards in Colorado?? Why?

c. Do you see any evidence of climate change where you live?

Problem 3: This is a hazard that we in Colorado experience all too frequently.?It was interesting to see the text mention the 2013 Black Forest Fire! There are many more wildfires to discuss so please choose a different one for your post.

Please identify one wildfire which may or may not be a?catastrophe. Please tell us about it?(date,?location and extent of damage, acres burned, what started it if known) and tell the class about the hazards it created (ie: deaths??destruction of homes? erosion? landslides? etc.). Is there a natural and human impact on the origins of these fires? Could we mitigate so these are less destructive in the future?? What role does the warming climate play?

Problem 4: Choose?two?of the following natural hazards:

  • volcanic eruption
  • earthquakes
  • floods
  • hurricanes
  • beach & cliff erosion
  • fires
  • tornadoes
  • tsunamis

For?each of the hazards?you have chosen:

a. Describe at least 2 methods for lowering the risk from that hazard, or reducing the damage from that hazard

b. Give an example of where these methods have been successful in decreasing the risk or damage from that hazard

c. Give an example of where the risk or damage from the hazard was not successfully reduced, and explain why.
