Problem
Process analysis explains how something can be done, step-by-step, or how something happens. All "how to" process essays have the same purpose: to enable readers to follow a procedure, or a series of steps, to achieve a desired result.
In contrast to merely informing the reader, the how-to process relies upon specific directions in a logical order. It must be clear because the reader has to be able to follow the step-by-step instructions to perform the process successfully, such as in preparing a recipe.
When developing an essay using this method simply think of chronological order. After your introductory paragraph, which should include an attention grabber and your thesis statement, you write about the first step in your process. In the third paragraph you explain the second step, and so forth.
