Question I: PA2 requires you to identify a current change in an organization with which you are familiar and evaluate a current public issue about which "something must be done." In relation to the change issue, think about what sense-making changes might need to be enacted and how you would go about doing this. Assess this in terms of the eight (8) elements of the sense-making framework suggested by Helms Mills and as set out in Table 9.7:
• Identity construction
• Social sense-making
• Extracted cues
• Ongoing sense-making
• Retrospection
• Plausibility
• Enactment
• Projection
o Which ones did you believe you might have the most/least control over and why?
o What implications does this have for adopting a sense-making approach to organizational change?
Question II: (250 words)
DQ (P) - Discussion Question I - (PDQ directed at upcoming PA) Graduate Level
Prior to reading this DQ, please read the PA2 homework and understand what the homework is asking you to complete. Once you have an understanding of the PA2 homework, please continue to the paragraph below to complete DQ1.
Using the Library Information Resource Network (LIRN), JSTOR, or any other electronic journal database, research eight peer-reviewed articles that can be used to answer your upcoming PA2 homework. Your discussion should summarize the articles in such a way that it can justify any arguments you may present in your PA2 homework and should be different from the abstract. In addition to your researched peer-reviewed article, you must include an example of the article researched as it is applied by industry (company, business entity, and so forth).
Note: This article summary should not be the only article researched for your PA2 homework. You may (and should) have several other articles researched to fully answer your PA2 homework. The concept of this DQ is to allow students to be proactive in the research necessary to complete this homework. You may use your article summary, partially or in its entirety in your PA2 homework.
Do these in order:
o Write the Reference of the article.
o Clearly state what the article is about and its purpose.
o Describe how you will use it in your upcoming homework.
o Repeat for a total of eight peer-reviewed sources.
Question III: (250 words)
You are a successful manager in a leading commercial bank and are attending a meeting with the CEO of your firm. Early in the discussion, he says, "Nobody questions that employees will be happy and motivated in times of prosperity. Employees will freely give their all when they are well treated, appreciated, and compensated with full salaries and nice bonuses. The challenge for us is that we are now under extreme pressure to justify every cost. Although we are still profitable, salaries and bonuses are frozen and there is no way that we can continue to spend as much on our HR programs and benefits." He then looks at you and asks directly, "So given that we hope to keep morale and motivation high, what do you recommend? Is there anything we can do to enhance motivation and engagement without spending the money we traditionally have?"
