Problem
Statement: Some have argued that gothic/horror fiction and films offer two plots: they either show what is scary being found inside our mind and body, or they show what is scary being located outside of ourselves, e.g., in monsters and houses.
Essay question: Which of the two plots is more compelling and why?
Alternate question: Is the "what's scary = inside us vs. what's scary = outside us" dichotomy false in gothic/horror?
