Secondly, consider whether Booker T. Washington was a "savior" or a "sellout". This should constitute your Thesis statement/the organizing idea for your argument:
I. W.E.B. Du Bois' emerged in 1903 with his book The Souls of Black Folk (including a chapter entitled "Of Mr. Booker T. Washington & others") criticizing Washington and his program harshly.
II. Du Bois developed his own solutions to "the race problem" including his own views on the political rights & the most effective form of Black education, elaborate on them.
III. Using your knowledge of Du Bois discuss whether or not Booker T. Washington was a "savior of sellout" of/for African-Americans at the turn of the century? Why/why not? In short, do you agree or disagree with Du Bois' critique of Washington? Which model (Washington's or Du Bois' model) seems more effective & why?
IV. How would an Ida Wells, Anna J. Cooper, Madame CJ Walker or other Black women leaders, or say, a Jack Johnson fit these models? (Briefly include at least 2 examples)
