In the DSM 5, one of the biggest changes was the retraction of the traditional subsections of autism (Asperger's, PDD-NOS, etc) into one large category, autism spectrum disorders. What are some of the benefits and pitfalls of doing this? You can concentrate your response on the social, clinical, educational and/or interpersonal aspects of the change.
Having studied a major portion of the DSM 5, which included readings about changes from DSM-IV-TR to DSM 5, do you see this change as necessary? Do you see it as advantageous? Why or why not?
