Public health can be one aspect of acting to strengthen communities. Public health personnel and agencies need to collaborate with members of the community, and with community organizations to be able to best serve the community. Watch the two short YouTube videos "NPHW 2021: Durrell Fox on Strengthening Communities" and "Signs of the Times: Collaborating with Communities to Improve Health and Environmental Equity".
The example in the video - Public health officials want to warn people about the potential harm from eating fish from the lake - Indigenous people in the area often fish in the lake - Tribal leaders were a good choice for partners in crafting warning signs.
Now it is your turn. Choose a health issue in your community (Microbes in the ocean after a rainstorm, Infection testing and vaccination drive, information about where to receive low/no cost healthcare, etc.). Which groups of people within the community would be good choices to partner with to craft messaging in a meaningful way?
