Problem: Imagine that in the future, you can choose to be fitted with an electronic device that will record the state of your brain and body if you die suddenly. The information the device records can then be used to create a duplicate of your brain and body after your death. [The person with your duplicate brain and body will remember your life before your death because the duplicate brain contains neural patterns that duplicate those that encode your memories in your actual brain.) Some people embrace this device. They happily choose to wear it and engage in incredibly risky behavior since they are confident that a duplicate will be created if they are killed. Other people are horrified by it. They regard being duplicated after death because you are wearing the device as no better than dying without it. This group refuses to wear it. Which group would Gretchen likely support? Which group would Cohen likely support? In both cases, justify your answer by drawing on the position each person defends in the Dialogue. For Cohen, in particular, draw on the views he defends at the end of the Dialogue. Indicate whose position-Gretchen's or Cohen's-you think is correct and briefly explain why.
